I find it sick humans put plastic tape around and spray paint "LEAVE TREE" on 1000 year old trees. Why don't we just leave them in the forests where they live instead of reducing their life to "SOLITARY CONFINEMENT"? And don't gimme that "you wipe your ass and live in a house" thing....these logs all go overseas now(for pennies).

I find this AMAZING! Look close! That tree on top growing over(out of) the tree laying down is hundreds of years old. And to think that the tree rotting under it has not completely rotted away and caused the growing tree to fall, over time? Amazing!

Realize the size of this tree! The others around it are not planted. They are also 1st growth, but only miniature in comparison to this 12 foot diameter giant! You see, that's the parent. Those smaller ones are the children. Just like your family.

Study about the concept of, or more accurately, subject of Ecopsychology is vital. Planet Earth is a beautiful place that my psyche has a deep connection to. I often think about and contemplate the possibilities beyond wealth, fame, fortune, riches and denial. Denial of our human culture as a phycologically damaged creature. We truly are capable of so much, and being as how we are aware of our consciousness, I can not fathom the possibility we are incappable of growing up as a species and putting ourselves right.

What happened?...

There are many great theories out there and you surely have your own if you have time to think beyond your finances. Morris Berman says in The Reenchantment of the World:
"Addiction , in one form or another, characterizes every aspect of industrialized society...Dependence on alcohol, food, drugs, tobacco...is not formally different from dependence on prestige, career achievement, world influence, wealth, the need to build more ingenious bombs, or the need to exercise control over everything."
He's right in some regard. Combine that with a lack of connection to nature and you have an environmental, social and planetary recipe for disaster.

I frequently take myself out to the ocean, beaches, parks, forests, rivers, lakes and mountains. It's partly because I'm a nature lover, but more than that, from a young age I was well aware that issues can often be solved with a firm connection, understanding and comfort from nature. Growing up I always believed that if we put ourselves into this position, there must be a way to put ourselves out of this position we have come to find ourselves in.

I believe we can change the world. It may be a challenge, but I think we are smart creatures.
Yesterday, 40 km into the bush beyond Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island, I ran into a logger getting ready to head into the bush to fall some trees.
Conversation:
me: Hi! Nice day hey?

logger: A bit rainy

me: Yeah, still nice...so I heard saws from up on the ridge. Is it 2nd or 3rd growth you guys are harvesting down there? I'm just curious.

logger: 1st

me: oh thats unfortunate, with all the 2nd and 3rd growth timber farms up for harvest?!?

logger: No it's not

me: Why so?

logger: Because all the big ones aren't gone yet

me: that's my point...how unfortunate

logger: So what?

me: May the infinite spirit one day recognise your troubled soul!

logger: FUCK YOU!

me: I DON'T wish the same upon you, have a nice day!

I extended my hand, we shook and I drove away.....the point is, he shook my hand after all that.
I hope deep inside, I gave him something to think about beyond the "I have a family to feed" mentality.
It's kinda getting old! WE NEED CHANGES!

CLAY PEOPLE 1 - 22"x30" - natural clay on archival, watercolour paper

This is the first of a new series of work I am creating, drawing inspiration from the forests and rivers of Vacouver Island. There are creatures in the forest. I call them the clay people. They hide in the mud and inside the soils. They are silent and invisible.

They are just like us, but rarely seen and never heard. It takes great concentration to become aware they are always watching out for the forests.

These creations are pure, natural clays found on Vancouver island. I use my fingers and rocks I find to create the "CLAY PEOPLE".

Central American Photography FOR PEACE

Hello,
These images were created in March 2011 while reminiscing about traveling.

The images here are created from photographs I took in Central America while traveling there in 2008-2009. Along with my girlfriend, Corinna Haight, I backpacked from Panama City, north, through Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Southern Mexico, before returning to Panama by plane from Guatemala City. That trip changed my life. The images have been super-imposed over my own wallpaper-style background and enhanced with subtle colours.

I have used a background that is my own design using the traditional peace symbol that has been spread outwards in radiating rings to create a "flower of peace". The original image is from a 36"x48" painting I did in Panama City that still hangs there today. The original painting was signed by over 100 people from over 15 countries while traveling through Panama. It hangs in Casco Viejo, in the UNESCO Heritage Site, in Luna's Castle, the greatest Hostel in Central America. There are also over 50 more of my paintings there for all the worlds travelers to enjoy.
These artworks are collage, ink and coloured pencil on stretched canvas, ready to hang.

Rework what has already been reworked, again

This series of works, and the many works soon to follow, are pieces that have been created from previous creations of mine, which in some ways, are creations from elsewhere or other peoples creations or minds. (say 3 times quickly)
I have gathered elements I enjoy from other paintings and works previously done and mashed them together through collage, painting, projection, photocopy and photography. Although the inspiration comes from others, the work is all mine.
The result is something inexpensive and attainable that will end up on walls both indoors and out, purchased or not. They make beautiful large-format posters for outdoor galleries or backyard patios in a city near you!

I have not painted anything in 8 monthes. Instead, I have been stacking sticks, reading books, illustrating on paper with pen, walking Neco, thinking deeply, working for others, planning my future and reaching into the far abyss of my mind. I discovered an important thing and before I show you the outcome, I will tell you what it is.

I can sometimes be very "uncomfortable", edgey, anxious, obnoxious, boisterous, sad etc etc etc..... I started realizing there was a place in my mind that I touched on in my last blog entry. It is regarding that quiet place where one is completely at ease and empty, yet completely full and aware at the same time. That place in your mind is a place of great peace and important contentment and should everyone find it, the world would be cured of all evil and disarray. I have since gone beyond this place.

Imagine this....really picture it if you can. It came to me out of nowhere and I have been using it for weeks now. Every day it gets more and more pure. It's mental visionary work. Consider it time travel or....mind travel but without any sort of meditation, yoga, or deep concentration. It happens and can be used while I am doing my daily routine.

I had this line of thought that took me into the middle of this large, black, transparent disc. The disc is similar to a saucer or a...frisbee. BUT, it's large, I mean infinately large. It stretches out horizontally either above me or below me in all directions, however it is flat and thin. Now here's the key part. The disc is essentially the "plane of positivity, ability and clear thinking". Below the disc is negativity, laziness, anger, confusion, depression, hatred and a myriad of other dark forces . Above the disc is positivity, motivation, energy, happiness, clear thought, love and light.

I am a small capsule flying around this disc and as my altitude drops, well, you know where I go. As my altitude climbs life is happy. The greatest part of all this is that in the beginning when this first came to me, I had to think about it quite often and remain on the upside. Now, only weeks later, I can guide my capsule along with ease. The goal is to always remainon the top side of the large disc.

It's odd to you maybe?....but it works and that is what is important.....
SO, here is the outcome of where I have been.

As well, this was the second painting I have done of people using mental travel to create it and soon after, that region of the world has gone into confusion of some kind. Years ago, I painted a Kenyan lady and weeks later they had riots. Days after I started this painting, Egypt went into riots. I intend to work things out.

The being is cross-cultural Egyptian, Mayan, Celtic and Coast Salish androgynous (both male and female) god(ess) holding the earth and drawing universal power from all they know.
Eternal Knowledge.

5 steps to peace

1) The mind is a terrible thing to waste.

2) There are only two tools involved in Sacred Geometry- the compass and the square.

3) Sacred Geometry is so incredibly vital to ones understanding of the universe. If one explores the reality that everything in nature is constructed the way that it is due to geometric patterns interwoven into it's energetic existence, life becomes more meaningful(period)

4)To understand Sacred Geometry (or attempt to understand it) acquire one compass and one square. Use these tools along with a pencil on a piece of paper. Allow your brain to move into that empty space where you question nothing, think nothing, desire nothing and feel hollow, all while being completely conscious, present and aware. The human minds universal place where creation is paramount and freedom is eternal is possible through sacred geometry, because it is everything in existence.

5) Repeat for many years or a lifetime until desired results are achieved.

NEW ARTWORK -HACK COUGH! - APRIL 2010

With the smell of lacquer and spray paint thick in my nostrils....hack, cough!...it's worth mentioning that I have 4 shows this month and a few next month in May as well......I would show the work, but that will spoil the surprise. And besides, some of it is still being completed and looks incomplete right now.
I thought I would tell you about the new work I have going up in a great new gallery in Vancouver BC Canada, down at 110 East Hasting Street called THE GAM GALLERY.

It's just that...I like this place, the people a good.

Started at the end of 2009 by three wonderful ladies (who you will meet if you attend any shows or events) the gallery is a multi-use space that includes a stage, artist working studios, and a street level gallery space. The ladies are friendly and on their game, hosting regular events including arts & craft night, chess nights, artist exhibit shows and more. There is no uptight here...all good times and fun fun fun! A great new twist on the gallery scene.

VANCOUVER 2010-restarting in April

In my case and surely any intelligent individual, this is called "natural law". So many people I talk to from wealthy waterfront homeowners in Point Grey Vancouver to the Iranian corner store owner to the young female UBC student at the bus stop to the panhandler on Hastings and so on and so on are angered and feel pressured by the vision and methods of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. From discrimination of female ski jumpers to removal of disapproved signage, blockage of roadways and increased police and military presence, people are tired of it. Foreign media journalists have come here and made a human zoo of a great place. All in the name of securing protection for a handful of highpaying, multinational corporate "sponsorships" disguised as "sport".

I do believe in freedom. I do believe in rights and I do believe in fighting abusive powers. I have been working extremely hard every day to accomplish my dreams of becoming a self-sustaining artist. I look for inspiration through travel and various walks of life. I have never had the "fortune" of living a luxurious, monetarily wealthy life, however I have always stayed true to my vision of Peace, prosperity, individuality, hard work and achieving dreams. I read a lot of information from newspapers to web-postings, reference books to magazines, periodicals to propaganda and books both fiction and non-fiction. I feel justified in my disagreement with the mass-infiltration of crap our wonderful province has been forced into through the directions and visions of the International Olympic Committee and partners. I am not angry, but what are you doing about it if you feel overwhelmed by corporate advertising and forced spiritual vandalism? Or do you really care what your force fed subconsciously? The ultimate goal is a political one in which our "people of power" (politicians) attract international wealth to invest in BC and buy up all of our natural assets.

Vancouver BC Canada has been suffering lately from an extreme case of spiritual appropriation and social priority contortions heading into the 2010 Winter Olympics. There is an unfortunate lose of accountability and rationality occurring within organizations such as the RCMP, VPD, The Greater Vancouver Regional District, Provincial Government, VANOC, IOC Olympic Organizing Committees, and a plethora of other misguided entities. Although this is very unfortunate in such an amazing place such as British Columbia, I am doing my part to counteract these disgraceful peoples ideas of “progress” and “success”. Success should be a walk in a clean park and a view of pristine mountaintops. That is what we are best at here.

DAMN RIGHTS IT MATTERS! IF YOU ARE AN ARTIST OR ATTEND ANY SORT OF THEATRE, MOVIE, PLAY, BAND, PERFORMANCE OR EVEN SO MUCH AS LOOK AT A PIECE OF DESIGN OR COLOUR, YOU BEST PAY ATTENTION!

Everyone reads, books written by writers…creative writers. People buy clothing with patterns and designs, all made by artists. Old men widdle sticks and old ladies knit tea cozzies….they are artists. It helps calm life and keep sanity close. Many people are artists and for some twisted reason others refuse to accept this because of their precluded stigma about who or what an artist is. Everyone goes to plays, theatre, a movie, a festival or something similar throughout the year. These are all artists. Some people such as myself participate in many of these from both the audience and participant side with little or no funding at all. It’s hard enough, but art is what we do, so we do it! If you are an audience member at any point…you are an integral part of the arts and must support what you are buying or watching. That band on stage while you drink your martini?.....that's ART! Some people such as myself feel worth being alive on this planet, partly because of the ability and support we receive through the “arts”. Some of us become ill, suffer depression, mental illness, loneliness and so on if we are not able to function effectively through the arts. For everyone like me who has some issues and finds the balance in life through the arts, there are many who can not or will not be brave enough to stand up and tell it this way. Removing funding from the arts is worse than or at least equivalent to cuts to education and health care as ultimately, they are tied as one. Cutting arts funding is refusing to acknowledge our future and our children’s future and well-being.

A MONUMENTAL DREAM

I have relocated from Whistler to Vancouver after 7 years in the coastal mountains. I have set up my studio space in my suite for now and will be exploring options in the coming months to acquire a proper production facility somewhere in Vancouver.

The following pieces of work are something a little smaller, more affordable and more intimate for those who appreciate something more subtle, calming and unsaturated with colour. They were produced after a dream I had about the future.

Each piece is watercolour, acrylic, ink and graphite on bristol board. They are all 11"X14", framed in beautiful one inch black frames, with single layer matting and glass. I have always been one to throw myself out of my own loop and never be afraid of change.
I fear those who fear. I fear nothing really, because ultimately, there is no future that I can predicted; only search for. I firmly believe in routine, but my routine usually tends to be the actual uncontrolled or lack of routine that brings me the best results. The flux of movement, the alteration of place, the desire for the unknown.

So early this summer, when the loop had to be broken, I decided to take the summer and head to the Kootenays of British Columbia for some far out, off track, way gone fishing, camping, exploring, gold panning, business contacting, proposal writing, searching and living. My friend Phil mentioned while out there I should try picking cherries for some cash.

WOOOOOOW! There's something I have never thought of, or done. So I did it. Why not?
It didn't take up my whole summer, but it definitely added some zest.

Let me tell you, it's a strange, yet incredibly awesome job. Never would I ever have imagined I would be willing to climb up and down ladders with a 25 pound basket starting at 5AM, 7 days a week. Being so far from any concept of employment I have ever considered, I learned that I actually loved it. We finished work every day at 11AM. The rest of the days were spent swimming, tubing down rivers, gold panning, cliff jumping, suntanning, reading, studying, driving, and of course napping.

I met some incredibly smart people and some incredibly douchebagged people. Some days were so beautiful, the lake 5 minutes away was too much effort. There were massive forest fires and torrential rains, gale force winds and blazing suns, full double rainbows and 16" trout.

The harvest season came to an early end this year as the rains came so hard for days and split and rot the entire crops. No matter the circumstances or trail of events this summer I conclude I will always be willing to follow this routine......the lack of routine......it brings life!!!

I am now in Vancouver re-establishing my artistic venture and Corinna is attending photography school. Vancouver is now our home base.

This fire west of Okanagan Lake, north of Kelowna nearly drove us out....the smoke...man.....the breathing.....

It started small........

And ended massive.....lasting almost 2 weeks.

This was the first time in my life, along with a few others, that we saw a full arc double rainbow. 2 full ground to ground arcs.

"FULL CIRCLE" MURAL PROJECT COMPLETE AT WHISTLER BC CANADA

Whistler, June 2, 2009 - Code of Creation kingpins, Daniel Poisson and Corinna Haight, are finished painting Whistlers 2nd large mural; the first painted by Chili Thom and Stan Matwychuk. This project, commissioned by the RMOW (Resort Municipality of Whistler) and the Public Art Committee is a gigantic, super vibrant 95' x 6', two-piece mural on the Blackcomb Way Bridge underpass in Whistler, BC, Canada. Whistler is a mountain biking, winter sports and outdoor enthusiasts mecca, North America's #1 ski resort and mountain host to the 2010 Winter Olympics. Recent travel abroad and life in Whistler gave Daniel and Corinna the unique vision for this new and necessary mural project titled: "FULL CIRCLE". This mural is visible to the public for everyone to enjoy!

Sure to captivate the viewer and leave a positive, lasting impression in the minds of the observer, the "Full Circle" mural incorporates vivid elements of nature from the highest peaks to the deepest oceans. Imagine being perched atop a snow-covered rocky outcropping, basking in your glorious state of wonder and fulfillment. Set out in front, is the view out across the magnificent Whistler valley, overtop the towering vertical peaks, vast mountain ranges and luscious evergreens, beyond the tranquil, glacier-fed lakes, through the motionless rocky bluffs, across the seas shoreline into the weather-hammered, adventure-drawing seas and into the depths of the deep, dark ocean where the largest marine mammals on earth reside. This leads you back to the shoreline and into the valleys again, up to the mountains where you have begun your awe-inspiring, life changing vision; having now come: "FULL CIRCLE". Keeping with the innocence of life itself, in it’s truest form, the mural is brilliant in hue saturated in colour and child-like in content”.

Corinna Haight has produced her own art and music event in Whistler, called Diversity, organizing over 30 artists and numerous bands. As well, Corinna has participated in group art shows including Artrageous along with selling and displaying her work at Fitzsimmons Pub and Cafe de la Place. She took the first place prize during the Masterpiece In Motion global snowboard design competition in 2007. Recently Corinna and Daniel were commissioned in Panama City, Panama to produce artwork for Luna's Castle, a new, world-class hostel. She produced over 70 pieces in total, now on display.

Daniel Poisson, producing 50 pieces in Panama, also has a long track record in the arts. Having been called "Whistlers Own Picasso" leaves Daniel with the passion, drive and desire to fulfill his dream of painting...forever. His parents and teachers collected his art from the time he was born. Daniel has donated dozens of art pieces to charities as well as put private collections in place around the world. Daniel is well known in the Sea to Sky region for his large, bold live paintings at festivals such as TWSSF, Artrageous, BlindMute Productions shows and Whistler Street Entertainment. His abstract African tribal pieces have become well recognized and collected, although his work is tremendously diverse and ever changing.

My name is Daniel John Poisson. I am 32 years old now. I am an artist. I paint mostly. Sometimes I get into these states of productivity where I feel I cannot stop and should not stop. So I don’t. It used to drive me mad and surely annoy those around me. People continually tell me I need a job so I can support myself, however, they do not understand what I feel. I just cannot do it. After sometime now, I refuse to give up this intense focus and realize something magnificent is occurring here. I struggle. Financially. Change is important. I feel there is a massive energy inside my soul slowly boiling over into the world and getting ready to explode. I love this feeling more than any feeling I have ever had. I have found something in painting that cannot and has not been found throughout my entire life. I refuse to give this up. If I do stop, I immediately feel that I am not fulfilling something. This “something” I can not really explain, however, for some time now, over the last few years, I have not been able to remove myself from my work of creating art. I cannot seem to work for someone else at a so-called “dayjob” as I am unable to focus enough attention away from my higher mental state going directly into my art, to provide that person with the effort they deserve. I need to produce. It’s the most important thing to my conscience. I need to think. I need to expand my conscious thought pattern as far into the universe as life's interruptions around me will allow. I feel a lack of energy and a breakdown in my constitution if I am not maximizing my productivity.

I originally started this condition, with images that were very messy, abstract, out-of-control some may say, however, very well intentioned for the greater good of our species. I use colour, and I love life. I have allowed my work to take it’s own direction, and although I often begin a piece after a solid concept, idea or image forms inside my mind, that initial image has rarely been the outcome in the final products. My work falls into no genre or style. I prefer that. What is “grafitti”? Why do people paint “lowbrow”? etc. etc. I paint. I create. That’s all. I copy no one, strive to be no one, idolize no one, and feel the need to just create, everything.

There is no desire to copy. There is no focus on certain methods or structure. My work ranges from fast scribbles to detailed ink designs, massive thrown-paint abstracts to maticulous renderings of tribal faces and clean lines, unidentifiably separate from one colour to the next. I like it this way. I don’t know why it’s this way. I let it be.

Recently, in the last year, I have begun working with the instruments of Sacred Geometry. Compass and Square only. Design work interests me. Graphic imagery is fascinating. I love shape. Contour is underlying in everything. I started to feel very calm and focused on a recent trip to visit my brother in Spring 2008 in Revelstoke BC. While there for 2 weeks, I completed over 10 perfect, symmetrical, interwoven images on paper working off one central point. These images all radiate from the centre. I have not yet discovered where these images come from inside me but they are seen, felt, heard, and original. I have been creating these images ever since and now this concept has transpired into a world of it’s own.

“THE PEACE VORTEX”

This concept brings me balance. It focuses me. There is something within these central images that draws my soul in and cleans it up and allows it to function efficiently. The perpetuation of creativity within this concept of the Peace Vortex has evolved into colour images, larger-formats, and multi-media, heavy-process creation. They are beautiful, geometric, and captivating visually. I feel they mean something. I have not figured out what exactly.

Recently, I was fortunate enough to travel to Central America for 6 months. The first three months were on a painting contract in Panama where I had complete and total freedom of expression to paint whatever I wanted, wished, or felt. I made a complete mess. I worked slow, worked incredibly fast. Painted abstract as large as 8 feet and spray painted stenciled images of presidential police officers I photographed. I got political, sarcastic, loving and angry. I flipped out, worked in a trance, got drunk, and threw paint. I smiled, laughed, yelled, danced and went free. I kept my nose 4 inches from the canvas for hours at a time in the same spot, as close to meditation as possible and everything in between and outside this explanation. It was an exercise in creativity from the beginning. I have no style. I paint feelings. I paint love. I paint what matter to help this world. I learned a lot. I learned so much in that time that I learned too much. I am still putting it all together.

After this adventure in creativity, I backpacked north from Panama to Southern Mexico, drawing along the way, building things in random places, and riding with the locals. I was searching. I used the next two months to bring personal awareness to my misunderstood creative situation I’ve mentioned. This is my conclusion, and although I need to survive financially, maybe I will never extend this justification to the proper plane of understanding towards you. I love ART! I refuse to stop and so does my soul. Unfortunately, this mindset has dug so deep into my constitution that, although being very open-minded, intelligent, aware and rational, I will not accept doing anything other than allowing myself the ability to function within my mind, body and souls own productive parameters. I am driven. I work long hours. I stay ahead of my own game. I’m organized, honest and dedicated. I HAVE TO CREATE! I feel an energy that I must harness. I need tojustify this feeling to myself before I can move backwards, because right now and for the last time period, forward is all I see.

Upon arriving back in Canada after this life-changing journey, I was eager to set up my work area and get creating. I had the basic idea of where I wanted to start image-wise. I began painting on March 17th 2009, after setting up, my studio, purchasing many more supplies than I could afford, and having my work space set-out ready to go at it. I created this series with only the initial image in mind and allowed the series to take it’s own direction. In fact, I had no intention of creating a series like this, but only to get a few pieces done for some upcoming shows. Now, it seems silly to break up these completed pieces into individual paintings.
I had to purchase materials nearly every day to ensure the vision was correct as it came to my mind. I worked on as many as 5 pieces at one time. This series has many amazing things that came to light after I went to bed after what is now to be the final piece in this series of 17 pieces. I worked everyday with little interruption for as long as 17 hours straight and as little as 6 hours.

This series has come to be titled “17-17-17-Two Human weeks”.
I began the first piece on March 17th titled “Bang!. I felt the last piece, titled “Mother of God”, the 17th piece completed was a fitting place to stop, which happened to be 17 days later. 17-17-17. I am not sure how this happened, but it’s a prime number divisible only by itself and “1”, which is also an important number that I have utilized repeatedly in my past works.

The first piece “Bang!”, conjuring thoughts of noise, or the Big Bang, initiation of life, is the messiest piece and the biggest. The last piece “Mother of God” is tribal, loving, and very clean and precise. All the images in between this have a natural flow of design from one image to the next that really makes sense upon analysis. It’s all build upon Peace and transpires from earth, peoples and respect. This is an ongoing theme and underlying importance in all my work, however, a series has never come out so perfectly with so little pre-conceived intentions.

So here is “17-17-17-TWO HUMAN WEEKS”…as the pieces were completed and signed first to last.

PANAMA COMMISSION COMPLETE!

It's CRAZY, but truly amazing that this place exists!

LUNA'S CASTLE is finally a visual art gallery, and from what we have been told by travelers, one of, if not the best hostel ever visited! So if your ever in Panama....please check it out!
All the paintings are complete and hanging on the walls in every room, dorm, common area, hallway, nook and cranny etc. In all, there are over 130 paintings from Corinna and I ranging in size from a few inches up to 4 feet by 8 feet. The concept from the beginning was to plaster the walls with as much work as possible and as good a quality as possible with the most diversity as possible. We've done that, aside from the new private rooms that have only 1 large piece in each room to keep them a bit more calming.

From the time you walk in the door, you are greeted with art on the walls.....and it never stops!

Corinna even made sure the lighting was right with custom panels on every light throughout the Castle.

While I recycled some of the waste to hang these garbage girls around the place.

Luna's Castle is massive, 4 floors, and complete with a full chef kitchen, movie theatre, 2 large common areas, a 20+ seating dining hall, overhead balcony, hammock breezeway, open courtyard, dorm rooms, private rooms and soon... a standing only bar in our dungeon. In total, there are 16 different accommodation areas, and Corinna custom made a different, hand-painted signs for each and every room.Here are a few pictures to give you an idea of what is going on here overall.

CODE OF CREATION STRIKES AGAIN!!!!!!

Hello,
Corinna and I are back at Luna's Castle in Panama. Two more weeks of painting after riding chicken buses from here all the way north to Northern Guatemala and Southern Mexico over the last 2.5 months. What an amazing time beyond any attempt to even explain. Anyone who knows the way we do things will surely imagine where we went and how we went about it!!!! Truly epic, inspirational, random, loco, motivating, and powerful!

I spent some of my time creating art with the supplies I carried with me, along with garbage, scrap and random things I found along the way. I did not photograph everything I did, however, some of the creative outlets included: illustrations, paintings, graffiti, wood sculptures, rock carvings, seed, shell and rock collecting, knot tying, photography, visualizing and contemplation.

Mission...ALMOST...Complete.
Yahoo!...ALMOST Travel time!

Corinna and I are in the finishing stages of work here at Luna's Castle. 4 days left...for now.
Looks like we will be flown back to Panama City from Guatemala in January for a couple weeks to provide the finishing touches on a major renovation, before we fly home in Early February.
We are in the midst of framing and hanging the last handful of pieces, solidifying our promotional materials, documenting all aspects and tidying up loose ends.
What a trip!
Here's a picture of me out in the street showing the Presidential Policia some of the paintings I did of them. I had some help hauling them off the walls and out into the middle of the road for them to see. At first they thought I was crazy for sure, but they couldn't stop looking at them. Alexis' smile tells it all. At least I didn't get arrested...again.

Luna's Castle is a truly amazing place, and when you travel throughout Central America, you will undoubtedly here stories about how people come here and stay a while. Many people overnighting it, end up here for a week or more. I get a little wild sometimes and the 160 vodka jello shooters I made the other night to toss around for good measure, certainly don't hurt the fun-o-meter, not to mention it's so damn hot, everyones nearly naked!

What Luna's lacks in a natural outback setting, it makes up for with gigantic space to move around, a jungle courtyard, lazy hammock breezeway, big screen movie theatre, free internet, timely laundry service, new guitars, bad ass art, panoramic ocean and city views and super rad vibes. Panama City is a modern hub and great jumping off point to South America and many awesome surf locations, islands and jungle treks.
Check out these little cuties we found on Isla Taboga, a 45 minute ferry ride from here.

This painting was done as the global economy began to collapse, in hopes that the 75 + people from over 16 countries who signed it, could maybe help spiritually offset the damage the Reptilian Greed Mongers are doing to their own children, among others.

There are two major coincidences in this work that became apparent after I finished it.
1) It has eight rays outward...Buddhism...but let's not get tooooo religious here.

equals $1,750,000,000 which is the price I would have to sell each painting for, to cover this soon-to-be-bigger mess than it already is.

After 3o hours of work, this painting tells a lot.

Creativity is a vast interconnected energy that once tapped into will bring about new, exciting patterns, freedoms, realities and truths.
Creativity, once accepted and utilized is uplifting, entertaining, rational and persistent.
Everyone has it in them, some just forgot to follow this path.

I was sun burnt to a peeling corpse after my San Blas Islands trip 2 weeks ago.
NASTY!
I have been staying inside in the shade and painting. And NO... I don't go get burnt often just to make myself productive.

Here is what I have done in the last 2 weeks. The first two are done with nothing more than earth...DIRT. The next two are my trademark style (if I ever dare pigeon-hole myself to say that...OUCH!).
I think one can see all are heavily tribal influenced after my Kuna Yala tribe excursion.

PLEASE...this is an informal invitation/ inspiration to all you that are artists and work your ass off and never seem to get anywhere. I know how it is....

This may be something you want to consider trying or keep tabs on until you feel comfortable enough to take a risk and throw yourself into something wacky.
The area of Panama City I am creating my artwork in is called Casco Viejo, which is the San Felipe district. It was declared a UNESCO Heritage Site in 1997. The blue and green house in this picture are my neighbours and yet, across the street is a pristine mansion covering an entire block.

In the last 3 years, Casco Viejo has begun rejuvenation and renovating the entire area into upscale restaurants, open patio cafes, creative art galleries and french/ spanish style veranda buildings. This area is beginning to take on the looks of any great city in the world. There is a long ways to go until completion, however when walking around and analyzing the number of labourers, painters, construction workers and tradesmen, one can not help but see through the walls of the finished properties to the bare ones on the inside...BEGGING FOR ART!

Panama has funky, off the wall art too. I mean the city paid for a competition to have any and all graffiti artists as possible paint gigantic pieces that now line the entire main road, Avenida Balboa. And there was a cash prize for the best ones. As well, this picture shows the interior of the Ministry of Culture with freaked out surrealistic, graffiti work on the walls and ceiling.
You won't see this shiz in the Ministry building Canada kids!
That's right.
This project is so large-scale in the fastest growing city in the Americas, which is also an International banking city, I don't think I can downplay the potential here.
So if you want to come down, where food is $2.00 a meal, accommodation is $12.00 a night at Luna's Castle, beer is a $1.00, and art supplies are available, bring your business cards and stay a while. I'm sure there's plenty of contact aside from my project.

PANAMA LOVE

Hello!

My world has been turned upside down. I can feel my feet on the ground harder than ever. I never thought I would see the day as an artist where every piece I produce is already sold, but here it is!
Damn it! I worked hard for this!

I was thinking last night about the life I lived for soooo many years and soon realized I will never be the same. I stepped outside the box. It took a while since the last time. The inspiration I have drawn from the variety of places I have visited is outstanding. Until this Panama adventure, I spent the last few years traveling no further than my own back yard, so to speak. I feel I have seen a great deal in my life and this last couple weeks has been revolutionary.

Among other things:
While walking in the jungle I was attacked by flies. Nasty Bastards. These were no ordinary flies. They don't sting or bite, but they landed all over me and buzzed real loud. I ran, freaked out, and ripped my shirt, hat and backpack off while flailing my arms everywhere. These buggers have staying power.

For the first time I witnessed the Jesus Lizard. I forget what they call them here in Panama, but they run across water....FAST! Yes Lizards....running on water. Just like on the Discovery Channel.

This big bug (whatever it's called) vibrates so hard it creates a massive sound. There are thousands of them in the jungle and it's loud. You never see them, but I managed to find one. I touched it's ass with a 12" stick and it actually made my hand vibrate that's how powerful these 2" buggers are.

I was also stalked in the city while taking some pictures alone down a quiet street. The guy had a gun. A big handgun. He wanted my Nikon. It's kind of an odd feeling staring at a guy who wants something you have and he has a gun. I still have my camera but he still has the gun too...Bless his Soul!

For my 32nd birthday, I visited one of the last remaining true tribes on Earth. The Kuna Yala in San Blas Archipeligo. Aside from water containers, tin roofs, outboard motors, a few small essentials and money, these wonderful people live in the most wonderful place the same way they have forever.

The Kuna have nearly 400 islands they "own" independent of Panama or any other nation. They are self governing, hospitable, and amazing. We stayed in palm/ bamboo huts on our own private, palm tree lined, white sand islands with no one else or at most, 1 Kuna family.

We spent 4 days visiting Carti, Diablo Island, Perro Island and Holland Cayes area; suntanning, snorkeling, joking, loving and drinking coconut water. My birthday party was incredible with 15 of my best friends I just met, a bonfire on the beach and James on guitar. Thanks everyone!

I wish I could explain this place properly, however let's just say I have met people on the road for months and years, traveling hard and many have said it is by far, the best place they have ever experienced. I now know why.

This is one of the islands we stayed on. It was 100' across, with 2 huts and nothing else. Nothing. No bathroom. Nothing. All 400 islands are like this aside from the 4 central hub islands.

Castillo Calabozo Studios (that's "Castle Dungeon Studios" in English) operated by Daniel Poisson and Corinna Haight, with overwhelming support by the San Fransisco Crew, Oregon Crew and Luna's Castle, is proud to announce we are underway in artistic production.

Following Captain Morgan's plundering of the Panama Vieja (that's the original city) in 1671, stones from the ruins were used to construct the massive walls of Casco Viejo (that's the real city but not the ultra modern skyscraper city) in 1673. Luna's Castle, built in 1905, rests upon this original city wall. Castillo Calabozo Studio is the dungeon, ajoining our beautiful central courtyard directly alongside this original wall.

Panama is a place of greatly contrasted cultures and delicately intertwined lifestyles. One side of a street can be gorgeous and modern and the other side filthy and rundown. Across the street from us is an ultra modern, extremely wealthy mansion and next door to them is a multi family, ramshackled structure literally crumbling to pieces. The fruit and vegetables here are the best I've ever eaten in all my travels (sorry Genetic Modification) and yet the street vendors can literally be stenching of stomach virus.

The Panamanian people are honest, hardworking and good humoured. The more I get to know the ones I interact with daily, the more I realize I'll have to call everyone a friend.

The work I have produced so far is diverse and intentionally so. This is life. This is Panama. No 2 days are the same. I realize that although there has been such a great change in my lifestyle and surroundings, my work tends to remain similar to the many styles I have developed over the last 30 years. I feel greatly inspired to produce and take great pride in not falling into, putting myself into, being put into, or ending up in one style of classifiable work. Genre is an old over used word.

Here are the first 4 pieces done in the first 2 weeks of arrival in Panama. DOCTOR GREYSCALE HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!!!!!!!! BRILLIANCE IS THE NEW DULL!

*although this did not start out as a self portrait, it appears as thought it obviously is one, complete with "poisson" foot, Panama Canal, flowing rain, brilliant sunshine, and loco vibes!

*Again I was just painting away and it appears this is actually Corinna when I really had no idea who she was when I started. It's amazing actually.....nearly looks photo realistic!

*I believe there to be a lot of corruption here. You can feel it. Some authority smile and some just don't risk it I think. The police do not like being photographed, but their presence is everywhere. I really wanted to do a street graph stencil piece of them however. I felt the best way to get an honest picture to work from was to ask them if I could take their picture rather than just sneaking one when they weren't looking. I thought if I went to a super seedy part of town where I would surely get mugged and beaten, hung around for a few minutes near the policia and taking pictures of the buildings, then asked them if I could take their picture, it would sure as shit shock them into a "yes" answer. This is the result...I wanted one of them playing with their handguns, but they refused to unholster them for me. This casual look is perfect and more fitting anyways.

Hey there! Only 4 days until we fly out from Canada to Panama and I have been thinking.
If your head is attached to someone elses, you do not possess the ability to think for yourself, or you are too comfortable to think outside any other box....DO NOT READ ON!
Man....I love ART! I can not pronounce to you the depth to which my desire to produce art has solidified in my existence. This is it!

The older I get and the more knowledge I accumulate, the greater I feel like being away. Away in my own perfect place. Utopia, it is sometimes called I am sure, but not some fake place with perfect people and only good sense. I mean this in no negative ways to the people who understand me or love me. I mean this in no negative way to people who don't understand or don't try to "get it". It's just that I read a lot. I think a lot. I consume newspapers, books, literature, manuals, periodicals, magazines, brochures, signs etc. etc. I watch people. I listen, selectively sometimes, but I do listen. What I see and what I hear are not overly stimulating to the creative mind. The older I become the greater I understand myself, feel wonderful about it and struggle with the acceptance of those people, places, ideas, and beliefs so skewed towards......TV....let's just call it......if you get what I'm saying you get it. It not just "TV".

Like how did we ever come to the point where gnomes, trolls and elves no longer exist?

Since when does energy come from water and water generates money and only that?
Where have the spirits gone? Why are people complaining about everything? With only one mouth and two ears, shouldn't we be smarter than we are? Spiritually. Shouldn't we be hearing and actually understanding everything we complain about? What have we done to make each other complain so much and go so far in the wrong direction?
What about the individual? What about silence? What about being comfortable alone? What about freedom? What makes so many want to adversely affect so many others? Or do we see it?
Michael Franti gets it. When the music ends why is the silence not heard as clearly as the musical sound itself? Where has all the passion gone? Not the passion to make money or get something from someone else. Not the passion to take what one feels they deserve. Not the passion to "succeed" in comparison to the next.

I mean the passion to love. The passion to create without changing others. The passion to be confident....alone and move others. The passion to be. The passion to understand.

Be passionate. Love yourself.
Love those who love themselves.
Teach those who do not love how to love....something. ANYTHING! Anything positive
Try!
Try your best.
Give when you do not want to give and take when you need to.
Be the best....your best. Think of being the best.
Work hard at whatever you do.
Respect everything

Ontario Canada Stopover

I am far from my home in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada right now. I am in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada. I am leaving Canada in 10 days to begin a thrilling painting adventure in Panama City, Panama. Corinna Haight (my girlfriend) and I will be painting as much work as we can for some very awesome people in Panama... a very awesome place. I can not stop dreaming of and visualizing the changes, influences and inspirations that will come to my artwork once again.

I am an artist who is very driven by changing scenery, however I do not paint scenery. I am driven by my surroundings and travels, however, I rarely paint my surroundings. I am also driven by new people, new outlooks, and new societies. These I paint.

I paint whatever comes from my mind, however it comes out and the outcome differs from week-to-week or day-to-day. Sometimes, as you see here in these images, I produce something that I really like, which in turn inspires me to produce another piece of work similar. I often start my bodies of work this way, accidentally, by flowing into it from the process of production alone. I produce a lot of work from quick sketches to multi-day, detailed pieces.

I go by feel, as it is the way I found my passion and it is the way I will grow with it. These are 4 of the 20 or so pieces I have done in watercolour and ink since I have arrived in Ontario 3 weeks ago. If one needed to categorize the works into style, there would be 4 styles, but I don't care to label them. Only 1 style is seen here. All works are on paper and behind glass.

WHY I WORK

I was born September 3, 1976 in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada and possess no formal education in visual arts.

Inspiration is drawn from my boredom, political angers, loves, desires, dreams, visions and global travels. Seeing places such as England, France, Mexico, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Belize, and almost every Canadian province and American state, has given me a broad scope of understanding in social injustices, societal falsities, collective desires and passionate likings.

My lifelong goal is to create magnificent, unique, life-supporting images that bring a global, community awareness to the viewer. All paintings incorporate elements and content regarding, unity, protection, respect, and dignity for our planet and Mother Earth, her peoples and environment. This is done by use of traditional design, aboriginal elements, and tribal peoples as subject, often with broken text stating the outright aspiration for a better life and caring thought pattern.

My work is brilliant, bold, intense, and highly collectible as I possesses in my archives over 90% of the work I have done from the age of one year old. My work is now enjoyed on nearly every continent, in many homes, businesses and private collections around the world.
